Old Southwest

Welcome to the Old Southwest of Reno, which is the oldest neighborhood in the Biggest Little City. Expanding from the Truckee River to Plumb Lane, and up to McCarran Boulevard, the Old Southwest offers tree-lined streets, historic charm and close proximity to the Midtown District and Downtown Reno.

Old Southwest Reno is very bicycle and pedestrian friendly, perfect for families. Residents are within walking distance to several parks, the banks of the Truckee River, and the excellent shopping and dining options in Midtown District and Downtown. Moreover, this charming area is located only 10 minutes from the Reno/Tahoe International Airport, 30 minutes from the ski slopes of Mount Rose, and 40 minutes from the shores of Lake Tahoe. 

Many of the homes in Old Southwest Reno date back to the early 1900s which is part of its charm! You’ll commonly find a brick cottage just down the road from a 1930s era mansion. The area also boasts larger than average yards, mature landscaping, and quiet streets. Many homes in this neighborhood have been renovated with a mindfulness to prioritizing historic preservation. There are also several mid-century homes with modern, updated features for those who prefer the charm of the Old Southwest outside their doorstep.
